The Burgess Shale

This year is the centennial of the discovery of The Burgess Shale, located in Yoho National Park. One of my projects for this year includes trying to learn more about this important fossil site, and how to interpret that knowledge for a general audience. For example, I am trying to work my way through Stephen Jay Gould's book Wonderful Life again. Although his book is rich with information and insight, it is not exactly a page-turner. There are many sources of information for The Burgess Shale, and ultimately, there is the site itself.
I think my point here is that I will use this Blog as a way to keep track of my progress, and post the links and references as I come across them. Of course, if anyone has any suggestions for me, please be my guest and post a comment. Having a Blog is a new thing for me, so please be gentle.

  2. I actually just finished Gould's Wonderful Life last week.

I agree, the meat of the book takes a bit of dedication to get through, though the introductions and conclusions are great.

Overall I thoroughly enjoyed reading it and I have a much greater appreciation for cambrian fauna in general.

    Good luck blogging!
